Insure the Home Office in Your Intown Atlanta Home

By Sky

home officeIf you’re running a business from you Intown Atlanta condo or single-family home, you’ve chosen the right place. If clients need to stop by, you’re easily accessible. If you do most of your work solo, you’re in a great area of town for getting out when the walls start closing in on you.

Many people dream of being in your shoes (or pajamas and bunny slippers) when you work from home. But would they envy you if disaster struck in the form of theft, fire or storm? They may not, because if you’re not thinking ahead, you may not be properly insured. You could lose everything in a moment.

The Equifax Personal Finance Blog recently posted, “Insuring a Home Office.”  Expert Linda Rey reports on research from the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America that says at least 60 percent of in-home entrepreneurs do not have full insurance.

If you do not run a full business from your home, you may be okay with your homeowner’s policy. Most will cover up to $2,500 in business property. However, they don’t usually provide liability coverage for business activities. If you don’t think $2,500 is enough, you may be able to add a Homeowner’s Policy Endorsement to your current policy. It will pick up the liability for the occasional business guest, plus it will cover extra equipment.

If that’s still not enough for you, Rey offers information on the most common small business policy, the Business Owner’s Policy or BOP. It covers major property and liability and can be tailored to your specific needs. An In-Home Business Policy offers more coverage for your equipment than your homeowner’s would provide, plus it will cover papers, off-site records and accounts receivable. If your home is damaged and your office cannot be used to a time, the policy may cover your losses.

Life working in your Intown Atlanta home is sweet, so make sure you don’t lose it. Visit the Equifax Personal Finance Blog for a list of items you may want to consider when you’re evaluating insurance for your home office.
